TRAINING GUIDELINES:
BEGINNING
a) Begin every class with our courtesy
bow. Say: "Courtesy to Kaicho J.M. Gallego PhD., Sekai
Seito Goju-Ryu. Courtesy to Shihan or Renshi, if present,
and courtesy to all black belts."
b) Recite our virtues and creed at the beginning and end
of each class session: 5-10 minutes.
WARM UP exercises: |
a) Running (optional); 30
squats; 30 crunches; 30 leg raises; 30m push-ups
b) (20-50) Kicks: Front, round, and side.
Alternating right and left leg.
c) Frontal, chambered punches performed in a deep horse
stance, start with alternating punches, then double punches
(20-40) reps.
d) Shadow, front sweeps, left and right (50-100) reps.
e) Left and right shadow hip throws (50-100) reps.
f) Basic maneuvers 8 point hard block, and 8 point soft block.
g) Basic stances: Horse-left and right, and Sanchin- left
and right; and cat - left and right.
h) Shadow offensive techniques; 15 to 25 minutes.
SPARRING
a) Pair students off to practice one, two, and three step
sparring. The senior black belt will demonstrate the combination
to the class. These are tournament style combination techniques.
b) In addition, practice one Neko-Do self defense technique.
Try to stay with the same technique for two months: 15-30
minutes.
c) Pair students for rounds of free sparring. Free sparring
may be 3 or 5 points depending on belt level, or it may be
performed continuous. The instructor should evaluate individual
deficiencies and prepare drills to correct them: 30-40 minutes.
KATA PRACTICE
a) Assign students to their respective group for kata practice
b) Assign one black belt to supervise the individual groups.
c) Review the individual forms 30-40 minutes.
AT END
a) The instructor should allow time to teach philosophy as
part of every workout. Furthermore, the instructor should
allow for quiet time (10-15 minutes)
